ILT Festival Aarhus in Aarhus

ILT Festival brings international performing arts to Aarhus every other year, jointly organized by Teatret Svalegangen, Teatret Gruppe 38 and Aarhus Teater. Performances span classical drama, dance, physical theatre, puppetry and installation art, staged not only in conventional theatres but across public landmarks and lesser-known corners of the city.

ILT Festival has brought international performing arts to Aarhus every other year since roughly 2009, jointly organized by three of the city's established theatres, Teatret Svalegangen, Teatret Gruppe 38 and Aarhus Teater.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

ILT Festival's defining trait is its city-as-stage approach: productions are placed in public landmarks and hidden corners of Aarhus alongside conventional theatre venues, giving each edition a site-specific discovery element beyond the performances themselves

02

The mystery stays covered

Its biennial rhythm, appearing every second year rather than annually, lets the three organizing theatres commit to internationally ambitious co-productions that would be hard to sustain yearly

03

The city starts moving

Because the festival draws on a small studio theatre, an experimental company and the city's largest stage as joint organizers, the productions range from intimate site-specific work to large-scale international touring pieces within a single edition
