Carnaval de Bani in Bani
Bani, birthplace of General Maximo Gomez and Peravia province's capital, holds a standard February Sunday carnival of local comparsas without a fixed character, distinct from the town's separate mango exposition and its UNESCO-recognized June Sarandunga tradition. The carnival draws mostly local and regional crowds rather than international visitors.
Bani, capital of Peravia province, is the birthplace of Maximo Gomez, the Dominican-born general who became one of Cuba's most important independence war commanders, a fact the town commemorates with a statue and museum in its center.
