Pase del Nino Viajero in Cuenca
Cuenca's Christmas Eve parade, held every December 24, depicting the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem through costumed participants, horses and floats, centered on an 1823 infant Jesus sculpture that gained its traveling child name after a 1961 pilgrimage to Rome and a blessing from Pope John XXIII.
An 1823 sculpture of the infant Jesus, commissioned by a Cuenca resident from an unknown local artist, passed through several generations of one family before reaching Monsignor Miguel Cordero Crespo, who in 1961 carried it on pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Rome, where Pope John XXIII personally blessed the small statue.
