Guayaquil International Film Festival in Guayaquil
FESTICINE, formally the Festival Internacional de Cine de Guayaquil, is Ecuador's leading film festival, launched in 2015 by Renacer Films and the FestiCineGye foundation under director Jhonny Obando. Staged every September in Guayaquil, the country's largest city, it screens dozens of feature films, documentaries, and shorts from Ecuador and abroad, inviting a partner country each edition and awarding the festival's signature Golden Iguana trophy to standout works.
Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest and most commercially driven city, was long overshadowed by Quito and Cuenca as a hub for national cinema.
