Fiesta de San Pedro de los Pescadores honors Saint Peter, patron saint of fishermen, across Ecuador's coastal fishing ports each June 29. Communities in towns such as Manta, Salinas, and other Pacific coast harbors bless their fishing fleets, hold processions carrying the saint's image, and combine Catholic devotion with celebration of the fishing trade that sustains coastal livelihoods.
Saint Peter, remembered in the Gospels as a fisherman called from his nets on the Sea of Galilee to become an apostle, has long been venerated across the Catholic world as the patron saint of fishermen, and Spanish colonization carried that devotion to the Americas, where it took root wherever coastal communities depended on the sea for their livelihood.
