Al-Hussein Mosque, beside Khan el-Khalili in Islamic Cairo, holds what is widely believed to be the head of Hussein ibn Ali, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Its roughly ten-day annual moulid packs Midan al-Hussein with worshippers so densely that crowds press body to body, spilling directly into the surrounding bazaar's shops and cafes.

Al-Hussein Mosque sits beside the Khan el-Khalili bazaar in the heart of Islamic Cairo, adjacent to Al-Azhar Mosque, and holds what is widely believed to be the most significant Islamic relic in Egypt: the head of Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, whose death at Karbala in the seventh century remains one of the most consequential events in Islamic history.
