Antiguo Cuscatlan honors the Santos Ninos Inocentes, the Holy Innocents, with fiestas patronales held December 26 to 28, a devotion documented back to the colonial period and represented by an eighteenth-century oil painting in the town's parish church. The district also hosts a separate Festival del Maiz in July or August and Guadalupan celebrations each December 12.
Antiguo Cuscatlan's most important religious feast honors not a warrior saint or a missionary friar but the Santos Ninos Inocentes, the children of the nativity narrative slaughtered on Herod's order, a devotion local chroniclers trace to the fifteenth century and the colonial period that followed.
