Fiestas Patronales de Guatajiagua in Guatajiagua
Guatajiagua, a Morazan town famous for its black clay pottery, celebrates San Sebastian Martir from January 18 to 20, preserving ancestral customs alongside the fair, with a second feast honoring the Virgen de Candelaria on February 2. The town is also one of the last places where the Lenca Poton language survives among a handful of remaining speakers.
In the hills of Morazan department, the Nahuat Lenca place name Guatajiagua translates to valley with tobacco crops or cultivated valley of tobacco, a naming that hints at the deep indigenous roots still visible in the town today.
