Fiestas Patronales de Huizucar in Huizucar
Huizucar, a small La Libertad department district whose Nahuat name means Place in the Path of Thorns, holds its fiestas patronales in September in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel. Research confirmed this date and patron through the town's documented history but found limited additional detail on the festival's specific modern-day activities.
Huizucar's history, as recorded in available sources, begins well before Spanish colonization, with an indigenous settlement whose population was estimated at around 700 people by the middle of the sixteenth century.
