Fiestas Patronales de Ilopango in Ilopango
Ilopango, set beside the lake of the same name, honors San Cristobal Martir, Saint Christopher, patron of travelers, with a novena running roughly November 1-15 and a main Mass on November 16. Municipal programming has included a desfile del correo, live orchestras, and youth events, alongside secondary barrio feasts for San Jose and the Sagrado Corazon.
Ilopango takes its name from the lake that dominates its landscape, a volcanic crater lake that is among the deepest in Central America, and it is fitting that the town's Catholic patron is San Cristobal Martir, Saint Christopher, venerated throughout the Catholic world specifically as santo de los viajeros, the patron saint of travelers.
