Fiestas Patronales de Jocoro in Jocoro
Fiestas Patronales de Jocoro is the February patron saint festival of this Morazan department town in eastern El Salvador, held in honor of the Virgen de la Candelaria. The celebration is best known for the Gigantas de Jocoro, oversized costumed figures that have paraded through the festivities since the early twentieth century.
Jocoro is a small town in Morazan department, near the border with La Union department in eastern El Salvador, whose name comes from Ulua, an indigenous language once spoken in this part of Central America, and is generally translated as town of fire or forest of the eastern pines.
