Fiestas Patronales de Nejapa in Nejapa
Nejapa, whose full historic name is San Jeronimo Nejapa, honors its patron San Jeronimo with fiestas patronales running September 19-30, peaking in the final days around the September 30 feast day. A copatrona, the Virgen de Dolores, is also venerated. The celebration is distinct from the town's famous Bolas de Fuego fireball tradition held August 31.
In the final days of September, the town properly known as San Jeronimo Nejapa turns its attention to the saint whose name it carries: Jerome, the fourth-century scholar and Doctor of the Church remembered above all for translating the Bible into Latin, producing the Vulgate that shaped Western Christianity for over a millennium.
