Festival de Las Palmas Panchimalco in Panchimalco
Panchimalco's Festival de las Flores y las Palmas, held the first Sunday of May, honors the Virgin Mary through the Cofradia de las Flores y las Palmas, a lay religious brotherhood. Participants carry coconut-palm fronds studded with seasonal flowers in a procession, accompanied by the traditional Los Chapetones and Los Historiantes dances; UNESCO added it to its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2025.
On the first Sunday of May each year, the streets of Panchimalco fill with the scent and color of flowers pressed into coconut-palm fronds, carried by hand through a town that has kept this tradition alive for generations.
