Panchimalco, the Pipil-heritage town south of San Salvador, holds its fiestas patronales September 13-14 in honor of Santa Cruz de Roma, the holy cross housed in its baroque colonial church built around 1730 by Nahua laborers. The town is one of the last in San Salvador department where Nahuat is still spoken and taught.

Each September 13 and 14, the town of Panchimalco, set in the hills just south of San Salvador, turns its attention to Santa Cruz de Roma, the holy cross that gives the town's principal church its name and its long devotional history.
