Fiestas Patronales de San Alejo in San Alejo
San Alejo, a district of La Union department in El Salvador's easternmost region, holds two fiestas patronales: one in July honoring Alexius of Rome, the town's namesake saint, and another in January honoring the Senor de los Milagros. The town's original Lenca name, Queiquin, and its later renaming for Saint Alexius reflect a layered colonial and indigenous history distinct from other Salvadoran patron saint festivals.
In El Salvador's easternmost department of La Union, the district of San Alejo carries a name with an unusually specific hagiographic origin.
