Fiestas Patronales de San Miguel in San Miguel
San Miguel's fiestas patronales run through November in honor of Nuestra Senora de la Paz, the city's patron, built around a legendary 1682 discovery of her image on the Pacific coast and centered on a procession and Mass on November 21st, with weekly processions, a cattle fair and neighborhood carnavalitos leading up to the month-ending Carnaval. It is the religious and civic foundation from which the city's globally recognized Carnaval de San Miguel grows.
San Miguel's identity as a city is bound up in the story of a single wooden box.
