Fiestas Agostinas are San Salvador's patron saint festivities honoring the Divino Salvador del Mundo, held every August with the central procession and Transfiguration reenactment on the 5th and a closing Mass on the 6th, framed by weeks of parades, fairs and the coronation of a festival queen. As the capital's namesake celebration, it is one of El Salvador's most significant annual civic and religious events.
San Salvador takes its name, and its biggest annual celebration, from the same source: devotion to the Divino Salvador del Mundo, the Divine Savior of the World, whose feast anchors the Fiestas Agostinas each August.
