Kuressaare Maritime Festival in Kuressaare
Saaremaa's biggest annual event, held in Kuressaare's harbor each early August since the Saaremaa Sea Culture Society founded it in 1997 to honor the island's seafaring history. The multi-day programme mixes concerts, a harbor fairground of food and craft stalls, ship displays and a dedicated children's area, drawing both island residents and visitors from across Estonia.
Kuressaare Maritime Festival, known locally as Merepaevad, began in 1997 under the Saaremaa Sea Culture Society and has grown from a modest seafaring celebration into the biggest annual event on Saaremaa, now spanning three decades of continuous editions.
