Tartu Student Days in Tartu
Twice-yearly student culture festivals, spring and autumn, built around Tartu's identity as Estonia's university city, packing 100 to 200 events into each edition. The spring festival coincides with Walpurgis Night, when the mayor cedes ceremonial power to students, and includes river-based competitions and an open-air song festival on the Emajogi.
Tartu's student festival tradition traces back to 1965, when celebrations tied to International Student Day on November 17th grew into an organized citywide event built around the university's outsized role in Tartu's identity.
