Irreecha Jimma in Jimma
Irreecha is the Oromo thanksgiving festival marking the end of the rainy season, celebrated by gathering at water with fresh grass and flowers. Jimma's staging is a local, town-level version of the tradition rather than the mass pilgrimage gatherings held near Bishoftu, giving visitors a smaller, more accessible way to see the same ritual.
Long before Ethiopia's Orthodox calendar dictates a festival date, the Oromo Gadaa system already marks the turn from the rainy Ganna season into the bright Birra season, and Irreecha is the public expression of that shift.
