Jimma's Grand Street Iftar is the city's staging of a coordinated nationwide Ramadan gathering, where residents of different faiths share the sunset meal together along a central street. Organized under a theme of religious tolerance rooted in Ethiopia's historical memory of Aksum sheltering early Muslims, it offers a smaller, neighborhood-scale version of the tradition seen at the flagship Addis Ababa event.
Since Ethiopia's Islamic Affairs Supreme Council began organizing a coordinated nationwide Grand Street Iftar during Ramadan, Jimma has hosted its own city-level staging alongside Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, and other regional centers, timed to break the day's fast at sunset on the same evening across the country.
