Tammerfest in Tampere

Tammerfest, launched in 1995 and directly inspired by Turku's Down By The Laituri festival, is Tampere's general city summer music festival, held at Ratinanniemi Festival Park along the city's waterfront since 1999. Organized by Tammerfest Oy since a 2006 ownership change, it spans a broad range of popular music genres over a multi-day outdoor program.

Tammerfest began in the summer of 1995, organized by a newly formed Tampere Summer Festival team that included Jussi Santalahti and Harri Rantala, and drew direct inspiration from Turku's established Down By The Laituri riverside festival, so directly that organizers reportedly considered alternate names for the new Tampere event referencing the Tammerkoski rapids running through the city center before settling on Tammerfest.
