Festival Off Avignon

Festival Off Avignon runs each July in parallel with the curated Festival d'Avignon, but is open-entry rather than juried: any company willing to rent a venue can perform, producing well over a thousand shows across more than a hundred Avignon venues. Organized logistically by Avignon Festival & Compagnies, the Off is known for street performers flyering in squares to promote shows, offering far more variety and lower prices than the In, though with far less quality curation.

Festival Off Avignon runs in parallel with the curated, juried Festival d'Avignon, or In, each July, but operates on an entirely different model: rather than a small formally selected program, the Off is open to any theatre company willing to rent a venue and self-produce, resulting in a program that has grown to well over a thousand individual shows across more than a hundred venues scattered through Avignon's old town, from proper theatres to converted courtyards, chapels and cafes.
