Festival of Cultures Gabon in Libreville/national

The Festival of Cultures, or Festival de la Culture, launched in Gabon in 1997 under Father Mba Abessolo, then mayor of Libreville, before being instituted as a national celebration by President Omar Bongo Ondimba. Historically Gabon's most popular cultural event, it showcases traditional games such as Songo, dances, and music played on instruments including the mvet.

Each time it is held, the Festival of Cultures, known in French as the Festival de la Culture, draws Gabon's diverse ethnic communities into a shared national celebration, a role it has played since its founding in 1997.
