Hamburg Pride in Hamburg

Hamburg's first Christopher Street Day demonstration took place on 28 June 1980, drawing around 1,500 protesters against Paragraph 175 in a march that ended in confrontation with police. Coordinated by Hamburg Pride e.V. since 2004, the event has grown into one of Germany's largest Prides, with participation cited as high as 260,000, running a fixed route from Lubecker Strasse via Monckebergstrasse to Lombardsbrucke.

Hamburg's first large-scale Christopher Street Day demonstration took place on 28 June 1980, organised by the Homosexuellen Aktion Hamburg group, drawing around fifteen hundred demonstrators protesting Paragraph 175, the law criminalising homosexuality, and calling for improved living conditions for gay people; police confrontation that day, including tear gas and batons used against protesters in Sternschanzenpark after officers photographed demonstrators, is a documented early flashpoint in the event's history.
