Fusion Festival in Laerz
Fusion Festival grew from a 1996 precursor event of around 800 attendees into a five-day festival now drawing roughly 70,000 people to the Muritz Airpark, a disused Third Reich-era military testing airfield near Larz. Organised by the non-profit Kulturkosmos Muritz since 1997, it deliberately refuses corporate sponsorship, VIP tickets and advance lineup announcements, functioning as what many attendees describe as a temporary parallel society.
The non-profit association Kulturkosmos Muritz first scouted a disused East German military airfield near Larz in 1995, drawn to the site's expansive runways, hangars and isolated location, and staged a precursor gathering in 1996 that drew around eight hundred participants before Fusion Festival proper began in 1997.
