Chale Wote Street Art Festival in Accra

Founded in 2011 by Mantse Aryeequaye and Sionne Neely, Chale Wote turns Jamestown, one of Accra's oldest fishing neighborhoods and a former transatlantic slave trade hub, into an open-air gallery each year, drawing upward of twenty thousand visitors for street painting, graffiti, photography, theater, spoken word and installations that reject the gallery's white walls entirely.

Chale Wote began in 2011, founded by Mantse Aryeequaye and Sionne Neely a year after they established ACCRA[dot]ALT, a platform built to support Ghana's emerging creative industries, with the explicit goal of giving artists a public platform outside the white-walled, air-conditioned confines of traditional galleries.
