Takai Festival in Dagbon/Mamprugu
Takai is Dagbon's most prestigious royal group dance, performed by men striking metal rods together in rhythm with lunga and gungon drums. Rather than a standalone festival day, it appears as a set piece within Damba durbars, chiefs' gatherings and funerals across the Dagbon and Mamprugu traditional areas.
Takai is a royal group dance rather than a fixed-date festival in the usual sense, which makes it different from most entries on a Dagbon festival calendar.
