Sekondi-Takoradi Masquerade Carnival in Sekondi-Takoradi
Sekondi and Takoradi, twin port cities joined into one municipality since 1946, share a December 24-26 masquerade carnival known locally as the Westside Carnival, drawing more than thirty costumed clubs and thousands of participants from across the metropolis. It functions as a unifying, citywide event bridging Sekondi's older colonial-era history and Takoradi's port-driven growth.
Sekondi and Takoradi joined as one municipality in 1946, but the two ports kept distinct identities for decades before their shared December masquerade carnival became a genuine twin-city event rather than a Takoradi-only affair.
