Athens International Digital Film Festival in Athens/Gerakas
Founded in 2011 as one of Europe's first festivals dedicated exclusively to digital-format film, this Athens event screens 80 to 120 films yearly across fiction, documentary, animation and experimental categories, drawing submissions from around 35 countries and holding the European Festivals Association's EFFE Label. Screenings run across several Athens cinemas each December, supported by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and the Greek Film Centre.
Founded in 2011 specifically to track the new cinematic language emerging from digital filmmaking technology, this festival positioned itself early as one of the first in Europe to focus exclusively on digital-format film across every genre rather than folding digital work into a general cinema festival's catalogue.
