The story

WOW Women of the World Athens in Athens

The Athens edition of the global Women of the World festival, founded in London in 2010 by theatre director Jude Kelly and now spanning more than 100 editions worldwide, hosted at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center since 2023 with four days of talks, panels, performances and workshops on gender equality each March.

WOW, short for Women of the World, began in London in 2010 when theatre director Jude Kelly created it in response to what she saw as a lull in the feminist movement at the time, believing the moment needed a dedicated public platform rather than relying on existing activist infrastructure alone.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

As part of a global festival network spanning more than 100 editions across 45 locations and six continents, WOW Athens connects local programming to an international movement specifically focused on gender equality rather than functioning as a standalone local event

02

The mystery stays covered

Its consistent home at the architecturally distinctive Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center since its 2023 debut gives it a stable, purpose-built multi-venue setting that many other WOW editions around the world, often hosted in varying local venues, do not share
