Northern Greece's largest cultural festival, founded in 1972 and staged each July and August in and around the Hellenistic theatre of ancient Dion beneath Mount Olympus, a site where Euripides's Bacchae is believed to have premiered roughly 2,400 years ago, combining ancient drama performances with contemporary music concerts.
