The largest Marian pilgrimage in Greek Orthodoxy, held each August 15 on Tinos at the church built where the icon of Panagia Evangelistria was discovered in 1823 following visions reported by the nun Pelagia, with pilgrims crawling on hands and knees along a red carpet from the port to the church as an act of devotion.

In June 1822, a nun named Pelagia at the Kechrovounio convent on Tinos began experiencing a series of visions of the Virgin Mary over three consecutive Sundays, instructing her to tell the island's elders to excavate a specific uncultivated field where a buried icon would be found.
