Festival de Junio Centro Cultural Miguel Angel Asturias in Guatemala City

Every June, the Centro Cultural Miguel Angel Asturias in Guatemala City hosts Festival de Junio, a month-long program of theater, music, dance, and film staged across the National Theater complex. Founded in 2005 and organized with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, it has grown into one of the country's largest performing-arts showcases, drawing established and emerging Guatemalan artists alongside occasional international guests.

When Guatemala City's National Theater opened in 1978, it was already an unusual civic gesture: a performing-arts complex carved into the ramparts of a colonial-era fort, its swooping concrete shells designed under the influence of the sculptor and architect Efrain Recinos, who treated the building itself as a work of art.
