Feria de Independencia Retalhuleu in Retalhuleu
Retalhuleu's September calendar follows Guatemala's national Independence Day script: a torch relay on the night of September 14, school parades on the morning of the 15th, and civic decorations across the town center. The nearby Irtra parks, especially Xetulul, run a themed independence fair with marimba, food stalls and games through the month, drawing day-trippers from across the country alongside the municipality's own civic events.
Retalhuleu, a lowland department capital near Guatemala's Pacific coast, marks Independence Day with the same civic calendar most Guatemalan towns follow every September, but does so at a scale shaped by its role as a regional hub and its proximity to the Irtra amusement parks.
