Feria de San Pedro Sacatepequez

San Pedro Sacatepéquez in San Marcos department holds its feria titular, locally called Flor de Retana, in the last week of June, with June 29 as the main feast honoring the patron San Pedro Apóstol. The week includes concerts, sports and food festivals, a dawn alborada, a procession of the patron's image, and the quema del torito, a fireworks bull-effigy spectacle common to highland Guatemalan fairs.

Two Guatemalan municipalities share the name San Pedro Sacatepéquez, one in Guatemala department beside San Juan Sacatepéquez, the other in San Marcos department in the western highlands, and published detail on the annual feria titular is considerably richer for the San Marcos municipality, whose fair, known locally as Flor de Retana, is documented down to its governing decree.
