Cacheu Carnival in Cacheu
Cacheu's regional delegation competes in Guinea-Bissau's national carnival parade in Bissau, documented as the outright winner of the 2020 edition with a six-million CFA franc prize. The town itself, a former Portuguese slave-trading port with a 1588 fort and a dedicated slavery memorial museum, gives the delegation a distinct historical backdrop.
Cacheu, the historic river port that gives its name to one of Guinea-Bissau's eight administrative regions, fields a delegation, Regiao de Cacheu, in the country's national carnival parade each year, one of eight regional groups competing on the judged route in Bissau alongside the capital's own neighborhood blocos.
