Quinhamel Carnival in Quinhamel
Quinhamel, seat of Guinea-Bissau's Biombo region and home to a strong Papel population, feeds into the country's famed national Carnival rather than staging a clearly documented event of its own. Regional groups prepare masks and drumming for months before marching in Bissau's citywide parade, and Biombo is a regular participant, but a standalone, separately organized Quinhamel town carnival is not confirmed in available sourcing.
Quinhamel is the administrative seat of Biombo, the small coastal region west of Bissau that Guinea-Bissauans nickname Tchon di Pepel, land of the Papel people, for the density of Papel communities settled along its rivers and mangroves.
