Pakaraima Mountain Safari in Rupununi/Pakaraima Mountains
An eight-day, self-drive 4x4 convoy that has crossed the Pakaraima range most years since it began in March 2003, running from Georgetown through Annai, Karasabai and Kato to Orinduik Falls on the Ireng River. The route passes through around fifteen Indigenous villages, several of which host overnight stays, across forest track, savannah and mountain terrain shared with jaguars, anteaters and tapir.
The Pakaraima Mountain Safari began in March 2003, when a small convoy of four Land Rovers and two tractors with trailers set out from Karasabai to Orinduik Falls, and it has run in some form every year since as an eight-day, self-drive 4x4 tour across one of the most physically demanding overland routes in Guyana.
