Lakou Badjo Festival

Lakou Badjo, founded in 1792 at the northern entrance to Gonaives, is the oldest of the region's three major Vodou lakou and holds its annual festival January 6 and 7, honoring the Nago lwa Ogou Badagri, Legba, and the Brave with Nago drumming, rara bands, and days of ritual observance.

Lakou Badjo, situated in the Mapou Chevalier locality of the Poto communal section at the northern entrance to Gonaives, is the oldest of the three major Vodou lakou in the region, founded in 1792, twelve years before Haitian independence, and it holds its annual festival on January 6 and 7, timed to the Catholic Epiphany, when pilgrims, locals, and devoted followers gather to honor the lwa Ogou Badagri, Legba, and the spirits known as the Brave.
