Leogane, west of Port-au-Prince, is known across Haiti as the rara capital, where Lenten street bands can grow to hundreds of members. Bamboo vaksin horns, drums, and scrapers drive processions running from Ash Wednesday through Easter week, stopping at crossroads and cemeteries tied to Vodou devotion and family lakou compounds.

Leogane, a coastal town about 30 kilometers west of Port-au-Prince, is widely called the rara capital of Haiti, and its bands can swell to several hundred marchers during Lent.
