Mont Carmel Vodou Festival in Saut-d'Eau/Plaine-du-Nord/Multi-city

Each July, pilgrims travel to the falls at Saut-d'Eau, where a reported 1849 apparition on a palm tree gave rise to devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the lwa Ezili Dantor, and on to the mud basin at Plaine-du-Nord, honoring Ogou. Bathing rituals, candle offerings and animal sacrifice sit alongside Catholic Mass in a rare public blending of the two faiths that has drawn Haitians for generations despite past attempts by clergy and the state to discourage it.
