Guancasco Ilama-Chinda in Ilama/Chinda

A Lenca peace tradition linking the Santa Bárbara department towns of Ilama and Chinda, part of a three-town rotation with Gualala, in which each town escorts its patron saint on a procession to visit its sister town on that town's feast day, renewing a centuries-old pact of brotherhood.

Three Santa Bárbara department towns, Ilama, Chinda and Gualala, take turns hosting a Guancasco that anthropologists trace to Lenca and, by local tradition, Maya-influenced river communities who once traveled the Ulúa basin to meet as a sign of peace.
