Carnaval Internacional de La Ceiba in La Ceiba

The Carnaval Internacional de La Ceiba grew out of the 1917 Feria Isidra patronal fair honouring Saint Isidore the Laborer, evolving through a 1968 queen's parade and 1976's first neighbourhood carnavalito into what is now widely called Central America's largest carnival. Held around the third or fourth Saturday of May, it combines two weeks of competing neighbourhood mini-carnivals with a culminating grand parade of floats.

La Ceiba's first patronal fair, called Feria Isidra in honour of Saint Isidore the Laborer, began in 1917 and by 1968 had added a queen's parade with just five business-sponsored floats; that modest procession has since grown into the Carnaval Internacional de La Ceiba, now widely described as Central America's largest carnival.
