Contemporary Drama Festival Budapest in Budapest
Founded in 1997 by theatre producer Maria Szilagyi to showcase Hungarian playwrights internationally, this Budapest festival grew into a significant theatre event over more than 25 years, though its status since Szilagyi's death in November 2023 remains unconfirmed.
Theatre producer and translator Maria Szilagyi founded the Contemporary Drama Festival, known in Hungarian as the Kortars Dramafesztival, in 1997, initially building the event around presenting works by Hungarian playwrights to an international audience of theatre professionals rather than a purely domestic crowd.
