Campus Festival in Debrecen
Debrecen's late-July music festival grew from a 2001 lakeside gathering into a University of Debrecen-linked event in the city's Nagyerdo forest park, drawing over 121,000 visitors in a recent edition across roughly twenty stages. Mature tree cover throughout the park offers genuine shade during daytime programming, distinguishing it from Hungary's open-field or beachfront summer festivals.
A 2001 event called Vekeri-to Fesztival began as a modest gathering by Lake Vekeri outside Debrecen before hosting the national EFOTT student meeting at a larger scale in 2007, a jump in scope that led organizers to rebrand it Campus Festival the following year.
