Debrecen Flower Carnival in Debrecen
Debrecen's August 20 flower parade traces to a 1905 charity procession of flower-decked carriages, reborn as an annual carnival in 1966 with daytime and illuminated night parades built from fresh-flower floats. Teams compete over elaborate flower designs while roughly three hundred thousand visitors fill the city's downtown streets across the full carnival week.
A floral bicycle parade organized by the Debrecen Civilian Cyclists Association in 1900 gave way five years later to a grander effort by the Debrecen Women's Association, which decorated twenty-three carriages in fresh flowers to raise money for the city's ambulance service.
