Csango Festival in Jaszbereny
Founded in 1991 by the Jaszsag Folk Ensemble after a 1990 research trip to Moldavia, this August festival in Jaszbereny showcases Csango minority culture with nearly 50 events, over 600 performers, and a craft fair of more than 130 folk artists. Many performing groups treat it as their only annual opportunity to appear before a large Hungarian audience.
A 1990 research trip to Moldavia by the Jaszsag Nepi Egyuttes, the Jaszsag Folk Ensemble, led the group to invite Transylvanian and Moldavian dancers and musicians to its International Dance and Music Camp that same year, planting the seed for what became the Csango Festival in Jaszbereny starting in 1991.
