The story

Valley of Arts in Kapolcs/Taliandorogd/Vigantpetend

Founded in 1989 by composer Istvan Marta and the Kapolcs Club he formed after buying a village house in 1985, the Valley of Arts, Hungary's oldest multi-arts festival, transforms Kapolcs, Taliandorogd and Vigantpetend into a shared cultural venue for around ten days each July, recently spanning thirty to forty venues and drawing well over a hundred thousand visitors across theater, music, dance and visual arts programming.

Founded in 1989, the Valley of Arts traces its origin to the spring of 1985, when composer Istvan Marta bought a small peasant house in the village of Kapolcs, arriving in a red Zsiguli car in search of one to buy; he and a group of friends, together with village residents, formed the Kapolcs Club and began developing what would become Hungary's oldest multi-arts festival years before the country had a developed festival scene and before Sziget Festival existed.
