Auer Festival in Veszprem
Named for Veszprem-born violinist Lipot Auer, this early-August classical festival run by the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra stages chamber and orchestral concerts across the city's cathedral, palace, and Hangvilla venues, alongside an international masterclass Academy. Several Academy participants have gone on to professional orchestral careers after studying alongside the festival's visiting artists.
Lipot Auer, a violinist born in Veszprem in 1845 who went on to become solo violinist to the Russian Tsar's court, a professor at the Saint Petersburg Conservatoire, and director of the Russian Music Society, lends his name to a classical festival organized by the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra in his home city each August.
